Four touch rugby teams will be representing Guernsey in the Interinsular against Jersey taking place on Sunday 7 September at Footes Lane.
The Mixed, Ladies’, Men’s, and Over 35 Men’s will compete from midday.
The public are invited to watch what is promised to be a fast-paced and exciting set of matches, characterised by the competitive spirit that always accompanies inter-island sporting fixtures, said Guernsey Touch Committee Member, Christina Ferbrache.
“These fixtures are always fun to take part in and watch. We’ve been playing Interinsulars with Jersey for nearly twenty years now and even though we sometimes play against much bigger nations, Jersey is obviously always the match we’re most keen to win. They won last year’s trophy, so Guernsey is hoping to reclaim the accolade this year on home turf.”
The interinsular follows the recent finale of Guernsey Touch’s summer league which saw 26 teams compete across five divisions, involving hundreds of individual players.

Guernsey’s Policy and Resources President, Lindsay de Sausmarez is one of the players that has been playing the sport since 2005.
She’d like to encourage more people to try it out.
“It started as the brainchild of a small bunch of people who got together now and then to throw a ball around at Cambridge Park. Thanks to the drive and determination of the likes of Andrew Hutton and the late Dan Roper, we held our first league in the summer of 2005 and our first ‘international’ – an Interinsular against Jersey – shortly after that.
“Conveniently, I can’t now remember the score but in our defence, they’d been playing for a lot longer than we had.
“It’s a great sport to get involved with as there’s something for everyone, no matter what your fitness level, skill or experience. It’s really sociable and there’s a good mix of people of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities. I’ve loved being a part of it over the years and it’s brilliant that it’s now so well-established in Guernsey.”
The Guernsey Touch Committee is looking to host a couple of events to celebrate the 20 years of sport on this island, one of these being a Beach Touch tournament that will be held on 20 September.
