It took extra time to separate the sides as the men in red took the spoils 3-2 at Springfield.

The result makes it five Vases on the bounce for Jersey, a run not seen since an eight game stretch between 1958 and 1965.

Guernsey took the lead in the 40th minute through Matt Loaring, but Jersey equalised just a minute later through Fraser Barlow to leave things level at the break.

Jersey then took control early in the second period, Barlow flicking the ball onto the post on 48 minutes before Luke Campbell headed in on 51.

The home side were almost immediately back on the attack, Karl Hinds hitting the bar.

They continued to pile the pressure on.

On 63 minutes, Lorne Bickley put Barlow through one on one with Josh Addison, but the keeper got down to make a crucial save.

The Sarnians rode their luck, but carved out some late chances.

With 88 minutes gone Wallbridge forced a great save from the Jersey keeper and then came the drama.

In the second minute of injury time Will Fazackerly, who had come on as a substitute, equalised with a strike into the bottom corner which took the game to extra time.

As the first period of extra time was in its dying moments, Addison pulled off a fantastic save but could only parry it into the path of Bickley who made it 3-2 to Jersey.

Guernsey joint manager Ryan-Zco Black said that he was delighted with his side’s work ethic and determination.

They coped with injuries during the match, players that really should have come off need to play on despite their problems.

“It’s just the luck of the draw sometimes. What I will say is that if you’re going to lose, lose well and lose swinging and I think we did that today.”
