More than 150 yachts will set sail into St Peter Port this weekend, headlined by the annual inter-island yacht race and a prestigious UK regatta.
Four events are scheduled to take place in local waters this weekend, bringing hundreds of sailors to Guernsey.
Leading off a busy 48 hours is the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s 2025 Morgan Cup Race.
Around Friday lunchtime, approximately 100 competitors will embark on the 110 nautical mile journey from the Isle of Wight to St Peter Port. Boats are expected to start arriving in Guernsey on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, this year’s Inter-Island Yacht Race, sponsored by IQ-EQ for the first time, starts in Jersey at 08:30 on Saturday.
Competitors across the many different classes will start arriving in Guernsey mid-afternoon.
The race will be followed by a prizegiving and social event at the Guernsey Yacht Club, who are co-organising the annual spectacle with the St Helier Yacht Club.
In addition to these races, 18 boats from the Royal Torbay Yacht Club are expected from Torquay, and 20 members of the Cruising Association will also be spending the weekend in Guernsey.
Guernsey Ports marina manager Steve Lowe said: “We have an incredibly busy weekend ahead, so we are hoping for good weather and fair seas.
“Our team will be on hand to support everyone in having a smooth and enjoyable experience. If you are venturing out on your boat this weekend, please be patient with our visiting yachtsmen and prioritise safety on the water at all times.”
“This weekend’s regattas are likely to make this one of our busiest weekends this summer,” added Mr Lowe. “It will be a real spectacle out on the water and more than 100 boats will be staying in Guernsey Marinas overnight.
“Leisure boaters make a valuable contribution to supporting the local economy. They go out for meals, stock up on supplies, explore the town – all of which makes a difference for local businesses. We are always glad to welcome them to Guernsey.”
