A Jersey Bulls match was abandoned last night after a tackle left one of the defenders with a broken leg.

Harry Curtis broke his tibia and fibula just before half-time in the Tuesday night match against Abbey Rangers in Surrey. He is currently awaiting surgery in the UK.

Officials made the call to abandon the match while Curtis received urgent medical attention on the pitch.

The score was sitting at 1-0 to the hosts when the game was stopped, and the Combined Counties Football League will now decide what happens.

In a post on social media, Jersey Bulls thanked their hosts at Abbey Rangers for bringing “calm and support to a distressing and chaotic situation”.

The club also praised captain James Queree for staying with Curtis at hospital throughout the night.

The statement continued: “It has now been confirmed that Harry has broken both the tibia and fibula in his leg and is currently awaiting surgery in the UK.

“His family have flown over and are now with Harry and will accompany him back when he is released from hospital.

“Thanks to the Abbey Rangers Manager, Adam Bessent, Captain Luke Robertson and the Match Officials Jake Symes, Steve Hart, and Simon Smith, for their compassion and understanding with regards to the abandonment of the game.

“Our support goes out to Harry, his family, and all of the players, staff and supporters that were affected by last night’s incident and we hope to welcome him back to Springfield shortly.”

Commenting on the post, Harry’s mother Tracy Curtis added: “We too would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped Harry under such distressing circumstances.

“We are praying that Harry makes the best recovery and is back doing what he loves as soon as possible.”
