Appleby partner Simon Florance has been appointed as a Fellow of the International Academy of Financial Crime Litigators, becoming the first lawyer from the firm and only the second in Guernsey to receive the global accolade.
Founded in 2018 in collaboration with the Basel Institute on Governance, the Academy serves as an independent global centre of excellence, bringing together leading financial crime litigation professionals and academics to shape best practice and foster cross-border cooperation.
Membership is strictly invite-only, requiring at least a decade of dedicated practice and a proven track record handling complex economic crime matters.
Florance brings more than 30 years of legal experience to the role, including two decades in Guernsey specialising in financial crime, international sanctions, and regulatory issues.
His practice spans anti-money laundering (AML), investigations and enforcement, civil forfeiture, criminal confiscation, and complex commercial dispute resolution.
Commenting on the appointment, Florance said: “It is a real privilege to be appointed as a Fellow of the International Academy of Financial Crime Litigators and to join such a distinguished international group of practitioners and academics.
“Financial crime is increasingly complex and cross-border in nature, making collaboration and the exchange of experience between jurisdictions more important than ever.
“I look forward to contributing my experience from Guernsey while also learning from leading practitioners from around the world.
“This appointment also reflects the strength of financial crime and regulatory expertise we have here in Guernsey, and I am delighted to represent Appleby within the Academy.”
The appointment cements Appleby’s top-tier Dispute Resolution practice in Guernsey, bolstering its regulatory and white-collar crime advisory capabilities on the international stage.
