Coop Mobile has won the Sustainability Champion Award at the MVNOs World Awards in Amsterdam.

The annual industry event is now in its 24th year, but it took just a few months for the Coop Mobile to find themselves receiving recognition.

Launched in February this year, they’re the first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the Channel Islands.

During the awards, Coop Mobile was recognised for its online self-service model, recycled plastic SIM cards, refurbished handset options, and the use of SIM distribution through existing grocery and pharmacy stores.

The Channel Islands Coop said the model is designed to reduce emissions and electronic waste.

The company also connects the service to its membership scheme, claiming that 35% of customers save more than the cost of their mobile plan through monthly grocery savings.

David McGrath, Chief Membership and Marketing Officer for the Channel Islands Coop, said: “Sustainability has been a core focus of Coop Mobile since inception. The model had to align with the Coop’s principles.

“The launch has been very successful and is delivering value for our customers and for the business.

“This Award reflects our commitment to sustainable innovation, creating value for our members and delivering ethical products and services for our communities.”
