The Committee for Home Affairs will formally propose the nominees at a future States meeting and if Deputies agree to the appointments they will oversee the implementation and future management of the island’s Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017.
The States will be asked to decide on the appointment of the following people, proposed by the Committee for Home Affairs:
- Mr Richard Thomas CBE as Chairman of the Data Protection Authority for a period of five years,
- Mr Simon Entwisle as a voting member of the Data Protection Authority for a period of five years,
- Mr John Curran as a voting member of the Data Protection Authority for a period of five years,
- Mr Christopher Docksey as a voting member of the Data Protection Authority for a period of four years,
- Mr Mark Lempriere as a voting member of the Data Protection Authority for a period of four years,
- Ms Jennifer Strachan as a voting member of the Data Protection Authority for a period of four years.
The above Propositions have been submitted to Her Majesty’s Procureur for advice on any legal or constitutional implications in accordance with Rule 4(1) of the Rules of Procedure of the States of Deliberation and their Committees. It is expected this will be voted on next month.
If the above nominations are approved, the five men and one woman will be appointed as voting members of the Data Protection Authority under paragraph 1 of Schedule 6 to the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017.
