Vanessa Mee, the Professional Development and Scholarly Activity Lead at The Guernsey Institute, has been awarded a Technical Teaching Fellowship for the academic year 2025/26.

The award, one of seven available, is jointly conferred by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.

It’s the first time someone from the Channel Islands has received this fellowship.

Ms Mee’s Fellowship will focus on investigating how small community colleges can emulate exemplary global apprenticeship models to enhance the aspirations, outcomes, and broaden the horizons of their learners.

The selection criteria for the Technical Teaching Fellowships include a demonstrable record of highly effective approaches to the improvement of teaching and learning within technical education, the potential of the Fellowship to inspire others in the field, and the strategic planning of professional development opportunities designed to impact the methods of teaching and professional practice of fellow educators and trainers.

Her research will also aim to develop a teaching model for technical educators that effectively prepares young individuals for the dynamic and evolving nature of professional life.

Principal of TGI College Louise Misselke said: “We are extremely proud of Vanessa’s fantastic achievement. The fellowship will give her an opportunity to share knowledge and effective practice with other professionals in the education sector as well as the chance to contribute to thought leadership within the broader education community. This accolade is testament to Vanessa’s hard work and dedication to her role.”
