In response to the covid-19 situation and its impact on the economic health of the island, the IoD has decided to canvas its membership and the wider business community to find out what support is needed going forward.

The committee said it wants to understand the immediate impact of the pandemic on local organisations, what support businesses need and what they feel the mid to long-term challenges will be. Results of this research will be shared with the States of Guernsey and other business groups to help shape their response and help to inform businesses’ own resilience plans.

Others plans from the IoD include a weekly webinar, sponsored by Butterfield, focussing on supporting business leaders who are steering their organisations through challenging times. The webinar topics will be formed in response to the survey findings and will also include topics such as resilient leadership, leading through a crisis, wellbeing for leaders etc.

As well as a variety of guest speakers, IoD Vice-Chair Stretch Kontelj will share his insights on the macroeconomic picture, helping local directors to see beyond our local borders and learn from other countries and companies during the covid-19 pandemic.

The IoD is also launching a SoundBoard Programme, with a view to ‘match-making’ executives with experienced leaders to help give them additional support during this intensive and challenging period.

“We believe that strong corporate governance and clear leadership will help organisations to respond well to the ongoing challenge presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and the IoD stands ready to help its members, and also the wider business community.

“These are extraordinary times and the pressure on leaders is significant, we are here to support and represent business leaders and encourage both IoD members and non-members to engage with our initiatives,” said John Clacy, IoD Chair.
