The Confederation of Guernsey Industry has appointed Garin Dart as its new Chair.

Previously on the organisation’s committee, the Managing Director of Le Pommier Hotel brings 35 years’ experience gained in event management and international hospitality to his new role as Chair of the CGi.

His career spans the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Russia, and Guernsey and includes involvement at board level with business associations in the UK and the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

In his new role, Mr Dart will focus on strengthening CGi’s relationships with business and government, helping to create a positive and collaborative working environment while supporting the organisation’s members.

“I am honoured to have been given the responsibility for steering the Confederation forward at what is a crucial time for local industry,” he said.

“Businesses are facing a number of significant challenges, including the rising cost of living, recruitment and retention pressures, increasing regulation, and the potential introduction of a consumption tax. All of these factors have a direct impact on organisations’ ability to operate and grow.

“I am particularly keen to engage with small and medium sized companies that may not historically have felt adequately represented, as well as those seeking support in navigating these various challenges.

“We also want to broaden our reach beyond our traditional manufacturing base as I believe our collective experience and expertise can benefit a much wider business community.”

Outside of his professional role, Mr Dart has also been actively involved in disaster relief work in Asia, has volunteered for six years as an ambulance responder and is a member of the Resuscitation Council UK.
