The Office of the Data Protection Authority is warning that cybercriminals are becoming more proficient at bypassing multi-factor authentication security measures.

While this authentication process is highly effective, the service wants to advise of extra and complementary measures to tighten security.

This includes using mail filtering to quarantine suspicious emails, restricting access to malicious websites, using hardware focused multi factor authentication, and geolocation of users to permit access to the network.

It also says easy to use alerting systems which are acted on by the IT department, and ongoing training and awareness internally will all help to bolster defences.
