Updated guidelines for employers to follow have been published by the Guernsey Employment Trust as it seeks to make workplaces accessible for all.

The charity has updated its disability charter, which assists disabled and neurodivergent people to gain employment.

It includes eight commitments that employers are expected to uphold if they sign up, including encouraging applications, guaranteeing interviews and providing ongoing training for managers in organisations.

The full set of commitments employers are being asked to follow.

Dozens of local businesses and organisations have already signed up as founding members of the second charter, which was updated to better reflect the now in force anti-discrimination legislation.

GET’s Chief Executive, Nikki Ioannou-Droushiotis, said: “The Charter is about changing the way we think about talent and building workplaces that thrive on difference. This second edition of the Employers’ Disability Charter reflects how far Guernsey has come in awareness and practice, but also how much further we can go together.

“We’ve made it easier to use, more visually accessible, and practical for everyday workplace application. Importantly, it wasn’t created in isolation. The Second Edition was shaped in collaboration with many partners, including several of our founding members who have been providing opportunities for disabled people for years. Their leadership has been invaluable.

She called for more organisations to sign up to improve inclusive recruitment practices and disability awareness across the island.
