Walkers’ Business Summer School was attended by over 100 students aged 16 and above in the first two weeks of July.

This year marked the fifth time the free Summer School ran in Guernsey, the fourth in Jersey, and the first time it included some students based in London.

The programme aims to provide students with insight into various industries, including financial services, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Attendees participated in a mock board meeting, sessions with professionals from accounting, fiduciary, and banking sectors, an overview of local law, a “meet the entrepreneurs” session, as well as a mock trial.

Contributions were made by representatives from various organisations and individuals, including BDO, Investec, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, and entrepreneurs.

Alison Ozanne, head of Walkers’ Guernsey Insolvency & Dispute Resolution team, led the programme with support from the Walkers team. Ms Ozanne said: “We’re delighted that we’re able to offer this programme to more students every year to help them gain a meaningful understanding of the different types of careers available to them and the training support they can get on and off island.”

She added: “We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the students who joined us this year and are thrilled that they left feeling informed and inspired.”
