Having grown up in a family which fostered young people, she said that experience has helped her in her career.
“Being part of young people’s lives at an early stage in my life planted a seed in me and was an eye-opening experience,” she said.
Ms Leale has worked within Children’s Services for 25 years as a social worker with continued professional development.
The Youth Commission said her “passion for working with children, young people and their families alongside her leadership skills and strategic vision made her the right candidate to lead the Youth Commission in the next stages of its development”.
Ms Leale said she is keen to work with her colleagues to ensure that they all understand “the modern-day challenges (young people) face, the situations they find themselves in and why they do what they do, and how we can facilitate what they need”.
“I am passionate about the Youth Commission, its people and its purpose and it’s an honour to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer,” she said.
“I am leading the Youth Commission through a period of exciting change, with the appointment of a new leadership team and with an office move on the cards, and by September I am confident that the service will be in a much stronger position to allow staff to focus their passions on specific services, harnessing individual strengths so that we can achieve the best outcomes for children and young people across the Bailiwick.”
