This year, a special academic edition of the Stock Market Challenge will be held in the morning for GCSE and A Level students with an interest in finance, economics and business.
Tony Wilshin, Chief Operating Officer, noted: “As a longstanding member of Jersey’s finance community, it is our responsibility to nurture the educational possibilities of future generations so that we can play our part in preparing them for their working life.”
“While inviting the Island’s schools, we were delighted to have been asked by some of them to host a boardroom session where our investment managers gave an overview of opportunities within the investment industry and some of the areas within which Ashburton specialises. Students taking part in the inaugural academic edition of the stock market challenge will also have the opportunity to quiz Ashburton’s team on real-life asset management and careers in the industry.”
The simulated week of trading is designed to give trustees and administrators an insight into today’s turbulent investment environment while also showing the pitfalls of looking only at the short-term.
Twenty-two teams from Jersey and Guernsey finance industries experienced the volatility of stock markets in last year’s inaugural event with RBC’s Wolves of Bath St taking the trophy. Following last-year’s tense, yet entertaining evening, organisers say the excitement is already building to see a new champion crowned.
