The ‘Women in Law’ event will take place two days ahead of the international day of celebration on Friday 6 March.
Among the speakers at the event will be:
- Advocate Claire Davies, a lecturer at the Institute of Law, who runs her own law firm specialising in all family law;
- Magistrate Bridget Shaw, who became the first woman to hold the post in 2013;
- Karen Houston, the Acting Detective Sergeant at the Economic Crime and Confiscation Unit;
- And Dr Sasha Holden, an experienced academic who teaches human rights law at the Institute of Law.
“It’s hard to believe that 100 years ago, women were barred from working in law,” Murielle Nicolas, Director of Administration at the Institute of Law, commented.
“They weren’t even allowed to study the profession. We are delighted to have a such a prestigious panel of professional women who have achieved so much success in their chosen legal professions.”

The event is free to attend and will take place at the Institute of Law, on the top floor of the Turner Building, at Highlands College.
