Channel Islands Adjusters Ltd has formally ceased trading after 22 years in the insurance market.
Established in 2004, the Guernsey-based chartered loss adjusting practice handled more than 13,000 claims across Jersey and Guernsey – including many of the islands’ most significant fire, flood and storm losses.
The decision to close was part of the retirement and future planning of shareholders Richard and Julie-anne Headington, who have worked in insurance for over 40 years and over 30 years respectively.
During the lifetime of Channel Islands Adjusters Ltd, the team collectively achieved 29 professional qualifications, a reflection of the firm’s commitment to technical excellence. Julie-anne alone holds fellowships in insurance, accounting and loss adjusting, a rare combination within the profession.
Mr Headington said: “This was a carefully considered decision. It was not connected to any specific instruction, performance issue or relationship, simply, the time felt right.
“We are both now in our 60s, we have a granddaughter, and after decades of helping others following fires, floods and storm damage, we felt it was the right moment to step back and look ahead to the next chapter.”
He added: “Our priority was to conclude matters properly and respectfully. We wanted to finish as we started, with diligence, integrity and care.
“We are immensely grateful for the trust placed in us by insurers, brokers and policyholders over more than two decades.”
Mr Headington said that after 22 years of independent practice, the timing felt appropriate to step aside as the landscape continues to evolve.
Looking forward, the couple will both remain active in the Guernsey community by working for local charities.
Mr Headington has taken on the role of chief operating officer of Guernsey Cricket, whilst Mrs Headington will shortly join Victim Support Guernsey in a role focused on fraud and financial crime support.
The pair also hope to mentor and train young insurance professionals as part of their continued involvement in the industry.
Mrs Headington said: “We are proud of what Channel Islands Adjusters achieved and of the team that built its reputation.
“While this chapter has closed, we remain passionate about supporting the profession and the community in new ways.”
Channel Islands Adjusters Ltd formally ceased trading on 31 January 2026.
