The Channel Islands Co-operative Society has been shortlisted for a national award recognising the UK’s leading co-operative businesses.

The Society is a finalist in the Co-op of the Year category at the UK Social Enterprise Awards, which are run by Social Enterprise UK and Co-operatives UK.

The member-owned business, which operates across Jersey and Guernsey, will find out whether it has won at an awards ceremony in Manchester on 12 November.

Chief executive Mark Cox said the recognition belonged to the Co-op’s colleagues, members, local producers, partners and communities across the islands.

“We are incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for Co-op of the Year,” he said.

“Co-operation is at the heart of everything we do, from returning value to members and supporting local causes, to investing in innovation and sustainability for the future.”

The Society reinvests in the Channel Islands through member rewards, community initiatives and support for local producers, as well as investment in its services and sustainability programmes.

Rose Marley, chief executive of Co-operatives UK, said the shortlist demonstrated the contribution made by member-owned businesses to communities across the country.

The winners will be announced at New Century Hall in Manchester’s Co-operative Quarter.
