A first for Jersey Post, the exhibition will run from 5 – 31 December and will showcase the complete collection of Jersey Post stamps issued throughout 2015, together with a selection of one-off enlarged prints.

Each year, Jersey Post works with specially commissioned artists, illustrators, designers and photographers, both local and international, to create Jersey’s postage stamps. The resulting designs are extremely varied, comprising stunning photographs, beautiful paintings, striking illustrations and contemporary graphics.

In 2015, Jersey Post produced a number of different stamp issues on a wide range of subjects including the Longest Reigning British Monarch, Hornby train sets, dragons, garden flowers, the Hubble Space Telescope, Magna Carta and the sporting events of the Island Games.

A highlight of The Art of Stamps exhibition will be an original line drawing of Sir Winston Churchill created by world renowned, Norwegian stamp artist, Martin Mörck. Produced exclusively for Jersey Post, this amazingly intricate drawing featured in the Victory and Liberation and The Battle of Britain stamp issues released earlier this year. Martin will be travelling to Jersey from an event in Monaco later this week to see the exhibition and will be at the Link Gallery from 12-2pm on Tuesday 8 December where Islanders will have a rare opportunity to meet with him and to talk to him about the traditional art of stamp engraving.

“Jersey stamps are known throughout the world for the quality of their design and we wanted to give people a little bit of an insight into their creation,” said Rachel MacKenzie, Jersey Post’s Philatelic Marketing Manager. “Miniature works of art in their own right, together the stamps make an impressive collection and we’re really excited to be displaying them in this way for the first time.”

Jersey Post has been issuing its own stamps since becoming an independent postal administration operator in 1969. Over the years Jersey Post has produced stamps on a wide range of topics and a number of world firsts. A constant mix of heritage, technical innovation and creatively packaged special issues keeps Jersey Post at the forefront of the philatelic world and helps to make Jersey stamps sought-after and fascinating collections.

The Art of Stamps exhibition will run from Saturday 5 – Thursday 31 December at the Jersey Museum Link Gallery which is open 10am – 4pm daily, except 24, 25 and 26 December when the Gallery will be closed for Christmas.
