Former JCG student becomes youngest Institution of Civil Engineers fellow

A former JCG student has become the youngest person to be awarded a fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Shortly after turning 28 year old, Rachel Piper achieved the organisation’s highest level of membership, which is earmarked for those who have made a significant contribution to the civil engineering profession and society.

Based in Devon, Rachel has won numerous engineering accolades and works as a principal chartered civil engineer for WSP, managing major infrastructure projects – including the High Speed Two (HS2) network.

She also frequently returns to Jersey as a STEM Ambassador for the engineering institution to mentor students and promote engineering careers for women.

Mrs Piper was last year named as one of the UK’s top 50 women in engineering.

Miranda Housden, a regional director at Institution of Civil Engineers South West, said: “Becoming a fellow at such a young age demonstrates Rachel’s exceptional leadership and commitment to shaping a more inclusive and diverse future for the infrastructure sector.
