Waddington Architects are have come up with the multi-purpose design for Laurraine Falle, the owner of existing Gorey eaterie, Feast.
The proposals also includes the long-established Sail Loft clothing store, which will be restored restore to make a traditional delicatessen. It is proposed to build the restaurant in the area to the rear where the sheds occupied by the chandler were built in an old quarry.
The restaurant design feature a retractable roof and glass walls to make the most of the natural setting and to capitalise on the views of Mont Orgueil above. It also incorporates an arts and entertainments space. Planning’s mandatory developers percentage for art contribution will take the form of new entrance gates designed by local artist, Nicholas Romeril.
Mrs Falle also wants to create a footpath through the site connecting to the Castle Green.
“It will be more than a restaurant, it will be a place to sample local produce, a place to exhibit local crafts, a meeting point for the tourists coming and going from the castle, and a place for the local community and tourists to mingle,” she said.
She hopes that residents will share her vision for the development.
“I have listened to the local community and believe that this project is truly a shared vision. We have so much support from the local hoteliers and business owners and I am grateful for how they have embraced our proposed investment. Everyone understands that we are a local family, not developers, and our intention is to create something that will meet market demand but also become part of Gorey’s unique legacy.”
