Friends of SCBU is a charity dedicated to raising funds for Jersey’s Special Care Baby Unit – the unit provides essential treatment for premature and sick babies in the island, and the money raised by Grand Jersey and its guests will be used to renovate the parent-child room at Jersey General Hospital.

The ‘£1 on bills’ scheme, which started in 2010, gives guests staying at the five-star hotel the option of adding £1 to their final bill to be donated directly to local charities. Since the scheme began, Grand Jersey has raised more than £30,000 for Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Jersey Heritage and SCBU.

Martin Kelly, general manager at Grand Jersey, said: “The £1 on bills scheme has been hugely successful since it launched in 2010. The initiative has raised vital funds for a group of local charities, and I am delighted that Friends of SCBU will benefit from this latest donation.

“Hopefully Grand Jersey’s guests can continue to raise more money for the charity throughout the remainder of 2015.”

Gemma Harries, fundraising co-ordinator at Friends of SCBU, added: “The parent-child room allows families to spend time with their baby outside of the care unit when the baby is well enough to leave the unit for short periods of time, alongside allowing the opportunity for other family members, such as siblings to visit. The facility allows parents to bond with their babies in a relaxed and informal environment and, thanks to the generosity of Grand Jersey and its guests, the facility will be revamped to provide a better space for families at the unit.”
