Team Manager & Coach, Eddie Mann has officially announced the Judo team that will be going to Gibraltar to compete in the Island Games.
There will be five athletes representing the island in the following weight categories:
- Under 73kgs – Lewis Bourgaize & Tom Barclay
- Under 81kgs – Louis Plevin & Howard Joyce
- Under 90kgs – Peter Childs
There will be three events that the athletes will be able to take part in – Individual (all five will be involved), Team (one per weight category) and the Open (Two athletes from any weight category).
Eddie has said that this is a fantastic opportunity for the athletes as Judo is not always a sport that partakes in the Island Games; unfortunately, it is not in Guernsey (2021) or Orkney (2023). He further says that the athletes have been training hard, doing a variety of competitions in the build up to the games and is hopeful that they will be able to bring home some medals!
Overall, the athletes have said that they are looking forward to representing Guernsey at the Island games and are confident in their own abilities when on the judo mat.
