Blanchelande College is seeking to reach and connect two of its Alumni Groups at forthcoming social events.

Saturday 4th July     10.00am -12.00noon.     Year groups 1946-1958

Coffee morning at Les Cotils Library Room.

Our oldest known group of Alumni, affectionately known as the ‘BLOGS’  (Blanchelande Old Girls) attended the St Martin’s Convent under the Order of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, back in 1946.

Anne Thomas, Head of Alumni Relationships and Events for the College explains how, even through those often challenging post-war years, the group have been bound by supportive friendships which have endured over multiple decades, with the Ladies still regularly meeting up monthly to this day.

Adie Wilcox and Meg White both recall mostly very happy days at the Convent in small classes, with a Town and Country bus delivering the girls in their gaberdine dresses and Panama hats.   Times remained challenging however with post-war meal times often dreaded with food still scarce and carrageen seaweed being served as a staple for dessert.  They have vivid memories of the domed Chapel, beautifully decorated Music Room,  elocution lessons, dressmaking and gymnastics on the roof which had been marked with a large red cross.

“The Ladies would love to extend an invitation and reach out to their peers c1946-1958,  to join them at a Coffee Morning to reconnect and reminisce some more and it’s my absolute pleasure to be able to help facilitate that, whilst capturing additional detail of the College’s rich history”  Anne says.

Anyone who would like to attend the Coffee Morning or share their stories as part of an ongoing Memories Project, can email alumni@blanchelande.sch.gg or get in touch via the school office on 237200.
