Guernsey Police has confirming that the Guernsey Vetting Bureau (GVB) will permanently dissolve as of 1 February 2026.
The Guernsey Vetting Bureau was the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s umbrella body for DBS checks, but its services have been suspended since July 2025.
The decision to permanently close it now was made following a comprehensive review of the services provided by the wider Disclosure & Vetting Unit, and is supported by the Committee for Home Affairs.
The decision reflects the increasing demand on the Unit, driven by national changes to vetting requirements and the growing complexity of compiling disclosure packages for partner services.
During the temporary suspension, third-party providers have successfully processed online DBS applications for the island, and this approach will now become the standard model.
Many third-party providers offer simple online processes for DBS checks, delivering results significantly faster than the GVB service could. This model is already in place in jurisdictions such as Jersey and the Isle of Man, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined service for individuals and organisations.
Full instructions on how to obtain a DBS check, along with an FAQ page, will be published on gov.gg.
