Butterfield is proud to sponsor the Guernsey Table Tennis Association’s (GTTA) junior development programme, ensuring the sport continues to thrive and attract young players.

The programme, now in its 13th year, begins with taster sessions for children in Year three. The aim is to foster an early interest and recruit young players so that they can be nurtured over the next five to six years and reach their full playing potential.

This summer, Butterfield also supported the annual Senior Schools International table tennis tournament. Hosted in Guernsey, the tournament featured more than 50 competing teams from around the British Isles made up of players aged between 13 and 18 years.

Derek Webb, president of the Guernsey Table Tennis Association (GTTA), said: “We are extremely grateful to Butterfield for its ongoing support. Firstly with the Senior Schools tournament,  as competitions like this are so important in helping to keep young people engaged in table tennis―a sport that can be played at any age. Secondly, Butterfield’s sponsorship allows us to progress the GTTA’s junior development programme to ensure young islanders continue to play and enjoy table tennis. Thanks to Butterfield, funding will also go towards training camps for players, education for coaches and umpires, costs for visiting coaches, equipment purchases and updating office hardware.”

Graham Thoume, Managing Director at Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited, said: “We are delighted to support the GTTA with its junior development programme and honoured to play a part in encouraging young local talent. We recognise the importance of sport to Island life and it is our goal to ensure it continues to prosper. At Butterfield, we are committed to supporting the communities we call home.”
