A new short, well-marked 1km trail has opened at La Vallette.
It starts and finishes at the Bathing Pools and is designed to encourage islanders and visitors to find out more about this beautiful area.
Choose from a range of suggested activities as you walk – either download information before you set out or scan the QR codes on the posts as you go around. Whether you choose the Literary route, History, Birdwatching, Traditional Guernsey Games or Bugs and Beasties, there is something for everyone.
Vive La Vallette Operations Director Helen Bonner Morgan said: “We invite people to come and discover La Vallette in a new way. The cliffs and views are stunning throughout the year, and we are fortunate to have such easy access to the natural environment. Whether it’s an alternative activity while others swim, movement during a quick lunch break or a longer exploration, we hope that this route will inspire, and encourage people to visit the area, be active and get outside. We are very grateful that The Northern Trust Guernsey Charitable Trust has supported this fantastic and educational initiative.”
The Trail Project Delivery Lead, Laura Harrison said: “It was important for us to work alongside the many fantastic and knowledgeable charities that we have locally. So, the information was developed in collaboration with organisations including La Société Guernesiaise, Guernsey Seaweed, The Guernsey Language Commission, The Pollinator Project, Guernsey Arts, The Elizabeth College Eco Club, The Guernsey Health Commission and the Clean Earth Trust.
“More information, events and seasonal routes will be added throughout the year. We see this trail as an extension of the regeneration work that is going on at La Vallette, to improve access to the outdoors and to celebrate our beautiful island.”
Vive La Vallette is a Guernsey charity working to reinvigorate and enhance the facilities serving La Vallette bathing pools and surrounding area, creating a welcoming coastal space for community health and wellbeing and enjoyment.
