Once again Diabetes Jersey are organising a ‘north to south’ country walk which will take place on Sunday 6 May and Lt Governor Sir Stephen Dalton and Lady Dalton will be joining the hundreds of walkers already registered to take part.

Unlike many other sponsored walks, the Diabetes Jersey walks is confined almost entirely to country lanes that cross the Island from north to south revealing, for many walkers, views of the Jersey countryside with which they will probably be unfamiliar. This year’s walk will start in the public car park adjacent to Grosnez Castle and finish in the car park at Goose Green, Beaumont.

“The North-to-South is one of Diabetes Jersey’s most successful fundraisers and last year more than 400 walkers took part and helped us raise more than £14.000. This is the sixth walk we have organised and we find that walkers really enjoy the opportunity of seeing the beauty and diversity of the Island’s countryside rather than the usual familiarity of the walks around St Aubin’s Bay,” says Diabetes Jersey’s spokesman Peter Tabb.

The route is approximately eight miles and explores the many country lanes of St Ouen and St Mary and Included in the walk will be the entire length of the new ‘pedestrian way’ all along St Peter’s Valley.

The route is entirely on public thoroughfares and is wheelchair-friendly throughout.   For the convenience of walkers free coaches will be provided that start from St Helier and also return from Beaumont. The registration fee in advance is £10 (which includes a free commemorative baseball cap) although anyone joining in on the day can do so for a donation of £20.  Registration can be made on the form published on the Diabetes Jersey website or intending walkers can register on-line at https://race-nation.com/north2south-walk-2018  .

Funds raised will help raise funds that will go to supporting the 4,000 and more people in Jersey with diabetes and Diabetes Jersey’s commitment to fund staffing and services at the Diabetes Centre at Overdale Hospital at a cost over three years of circa £180,000.Ends.
