The Stroke Association is hoping to beat its 2018 fundraising through its Resolution Run and Step Out For Stroke after securing the events’ first sponsor.

Ravenscroft will be the sponsor of both events for 2019 and has already entered its team to take part in the 5km and 10km options of the Resolution Run, which takes place on Sunday 10thMarch. The Step Out For Stroke walk will be in July.

‘Next year will be our fourth Resolution Run but the first time we have had a sponsor which means that we can raise even more money to help support stroke survivors in Jersey. We can’t thank Ravenscroft enough for agreeing to sponsor both the Resolution Run and the Step Out For Stroke survivors’ walk. We hope that with their support, we will have a record number of participants and more importantly raise a record amount of money,’ said Tracy O’Regan, Stroke Association fundraising and operations manager – Jersey.

Last year, the Stroke Association moved the run from Les Landes to Les Quennevais and increased participants from 150 to 350 raising thousands for the charity.

‘The change in venue really helped grow the event and people seem to enjoy having the option of a 5km or a 10km route. We’ve opened up an early bird entry as we know that people like to set themselves New Year’s challenges and we hope that they can use the Resolution Run as a motivational target while also helping islanders,’ said Mrs O’Regan.

‘Strokes can affect anyone of any age and is the fourth biggest killer in the UK and the leading cause of adult disability. There are more than 100,000 strokes in the UK every year, which equates to one every five minutes, and in Jersey, on average, we receive more than 130 referrals a year which is two people every week.’

Early bird entries for Jersey’s Resolution Run, which is one of 33 taking place across the UK, is now open at www.resolutionrun.org.uk and costs £10 which includes an event t-shirt.

Haydn Taylor, managing director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said the investment services group was delighted to be supporting the Stroke Association.

‘Ravenscroft is a growing business and one which is passionate about supporting the communities within which we operate. Many of our team have seen friends and family affected by stroke and so we hope that by supporting these two events that we can help the Stroke Association to raise more than ever before and provide invaluable support to islanders at a time when they need it the most.’
