What's it about?



For supervisors who have had previous training in supervisory skills and are now ready for an advanced course to develop their existing skills. The course is designed to build on and extend current supervisory management skills. 






OBJECTIVES:



  • By the end of the course delegates will be able to :-

  • Help staff to reach their fullest potential through coaching

  • Motivate their team members to give of their best by setting clear, measurable standards of performance and targets

  • Conduct face-to-face meetings and discussions effectively and confidently

  • Plan and present information to their manager and their team

  • Improve team problem-solving and planning techniques


METHOD:


The course is highly participative and practical with group discussions and role play


COURSE CONTENT:


          THE SUPERVISOR'S ROLE RE-VISITED



  • The supervisor's responsibilities to their manager, internal and external customers/clients and the organisation

  • Reminder of leadership role and actions required to get the job done by building teams and developing individuals

  • Using appropriate leadership style


          IMPROVING COMMUNICATION SKILLS



  • Barriers to interpersonal communication

  • Skills of face-to-face communication, e.g. listening, questioning and giving/receiving feedback

  • Using assertiveness skills by developing choices in behaviour

  • Exercise


          STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND COACHING



  • Establishing best practice in motivation

  • Conducting meaningful one-to-one meetings

  • Appraisal, target setting and performance coaching

  • Role plays


          INTRODUCING CHANGE



  • Role of supervisor in implementing change

  • Simple aids to planning for change

  • Problem-solving and fact-finding techniques to assist planning and involvement of the team


          LEADING EFFECTIVE TEAM MEETINGS



  • Benefits of regular communication with the team

  • Identifying what information staff members need

  • How to prepare and present a team brief and handle questions from the team

  • Role play


          SUMMARY AND ACTION PLANNING


          Delegates will develop action plans for implementation on their return to work
