A Jersey advocate who’s practised family law for nearly 20 years has been given a prestigious award.
Advocate Samantha McFazdean, a senior associate at Carey Olsen, has been made a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.
Admission to the academy - which has 700 fellows – is by invitation only, and brings together experts from around the globe. Advocate McFazden is one of only two local fellows.
Advocate McFazden was encourage to put forward an application to join the academy after attending an IAFL European Conference in May.
Carey Olsen partner, Marcus Pallot, said: “Becoming a fellow of the IAFL is a significant acknowledgement of Sam’s expertise and reflects her commitment to promoting excellent family practice at the highest level. The honour is well deserved.”
Advocate McFazden said: “Family law litigation should be conducted by a specialist, alive to the needs of the fragile relationships that give rise to these disputes; unlike some other areas of dispute resolution, the parties often need to maintain an on-going relationship, for the sake of their children, long after the dispute has been resolved. Excellent family practice requires the most sensitive of approaches and significant experience in the particular challenge that family practice presents.”
