Baker & Partners announces new appointments

Friday 12 April 2024

A specialist commercial and trust litigation firm has announced new appointments to expand its Jersey practice.

Baker & Partners has welcomed two new Partners to the practice, growing its partnership to nine.

Baker & Partners has also welcomed an additional 18 individuals, growing by nearly 70% over the past 12 months.

Senior Partner, Stephen Baker said: “This year Baker & Partners celebrates its 20th anniversary and these appointments demonstrate just how much the firm has grown over the past 20 years.

"Our growth is truly a result of all the talented litigators who have been part of Baker & Partners over the past 20 years.

"These appointments represent the continued growth of the firm and its reputation for being at the forefront of some of the most complex and high value commercial and trust litigation in Jersey.”

Amy Benest, who joined Baker & Partners in 2023, was promoted to Partner in February 2024.

Ms Benest has extensive experience working on a number of high-profile trust cases, concerning protector powers, trustee disclosure, beneficiaries’ rights and challenges to trustees’ decisions.

Before joining Baker and Partners, Ms Benest worked at a full-service law firm in Jersey for 10 years, and before that in London.

Partner Jared Dann, Senior Associate Eleanor Colley and Associate James Wood have recently joined the Baker & Partners team from other litigation law firms.

Mr Dann specialises in complex and high-value trust litigation, and in matters involving fraud and asset recovery.

He is an experienced courtroom advocate, having appeared in the English courts as a barrister, and subsequently in the Jersey courts at all levels.

Mr Dann has considerable expertise in a range of contentious insolvency and restructuring matters, particularly where they involve multiple jurisdictions.

He frequently works closely with law firms in the UK and internationally, having developed a practice which often involves international and multi-jurisdictional issues.

Eleanor Colley has joined the firm as a Senior Associate.

Ms Colley previously worked in a full-service law firm in Jersey where she worked on high-value personal injury and complex clinical negligence claims, as well as more general civil litigation representing corporate and high net worth clients.

Meanwhile, Mr Wood has expertise in civil and commercial disputes. He has relocated to Jersey from the UK where he trained at a specialist litigation and commercial law firm.

Baker Regulatory Services is also expanding.

Zoe Dixon-Smith has joined as a Compliance Consultant with over 30 years of experience.

She is experienced both locally and globally in risk, compliance and AML roles at international banks, privately owned trust and fund companies as well as listed PLCs.

Ms Dixon-Smith also has experience at the JFSC as a regulatory supervisor, and as an executive director at regulated financial institutions.
