EY summer internships

Wednesday 23 July 2014

Channel Islands students are taking part in a four week internship programme designed to provide an insight into the world of professional services.

The students, six from Guernsey and eight from Jersey, are taking part in a varied and broad programme of activities EY in the Channel Islands, which combines on the job learning through work experience and work shadowing with informative workshops and presentations.

During their time with EY, the interns will learn about the work the firm’s assurance and tax teams provide, while also developing the soft skills required to build a successful career including networking, project management and presentation skills.

To support them during their time with the firm every intern has been allocated an experienced professional at EY as their mentor. The mentor’s role is to help the interns create development plans, provide feedback on progression and discuss the possible career paths available at EY locally and globally.

“The new programme has been tailored to provide our interns with a really challenging and wide-ranging experience. This is the first four week internship we have offered and we are sure that the students will gain a fantastic insight into what it takes to work in the professional services industry from their time with the firm,” said Julie Bisson, EY’s Channel Islands Executive Director and People Leader.

“The month provides enough time for the interns to begin to assess which practice area and career path might suit them best, while also allowing them to become fully embedded in EY’s culture. At the end of the programme the students will each write a blog to reflect upon and share their experiences.”
EY’s programme involves the interns working in both the Jersey and Guernsey offices, training on social media in a business context, volunteering at Durrell Wildlife Park as part of the firm’s Sustainability Day and visits to client premises.”
