A new food supplement developed by a Jersey company has had a ringing endorsement on primetime BBC television.
Four million people watched 'The Truth About Sleep' at 21:00 on Thursday night - and saw popular presenter Dr Michael Mosley curing his insomnia by taking a 'prebiotic' powder before bed. Previously, 75% of his sleep had been analysed and deemed 'good' with 25% disrupted. After taking the powder - mixed with a hot drink - for five nights, his 'good' sleep jumped to 95%.
Dr Mosley was taking Bimuno, which increases friendly gut bacteria and has been clinically proven to have a wide range of health benefits. The product range is owned by Clasado Biosciences, which is based in Library Place.
CEO Graham Waters, who lives in the Island, said: "We are delighted with the BBC programme and their finding that brands such as Bimuno can have an impact on improving sleep and buffering the physiological impacts of stress. This is an area that people can benefit from when taking Bimuno, alongside easing digestive discomfort, so it’s great to have another advocate such as Dr Michael Mosley, who is a respectable and award-winning scientist in his own right, bringing the issue to the wider attention of British viewers.”
Bimuno contains a patented active ingredient developed in conjunction with the University of Reading and other research institutes. Scientists have discovered in recent years that the digestive system doesn’t just digest food but it regulates the immune system, influences the metabolism, controls inflammation in the body and can even affect mental health. The 'Truth About Sleep' also showed that there was a direct link between the health of the gut and the ability to have a good night's rest.
