Further chartered success for Channel Islands' PR professionals

Thursday 15 December 2016

A further two public relations professionals in the Channel Islands have achieved Chartered Status with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), meaning the Channel Islands now has the highest proportion of Chartered Practitioners of any region across the CIPR network.

William Church, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Jersey Royal Company, and Mark Oliphant, Head of Communications at the Channel Islands Securities Exchange (CISE), both completed CIPR Chartership Assessment Days recently in London.

Their success means that 12% of all CIPR Members across Jersey and Guernsey are now Chartered PR Practitioners, the highest proportion of any other CIPR Regional Group.

Mr Church, a CIPR Channel Islands Group committee member, has extensive experience in brand management, Customer Relationship Management, business development and public relations having held a range of roles in the fresh produce industry in England, Spain, Zimbabwe and Jersey. He is the only person in Jersey to hold Chartered status with both the CIPR and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

Mr Oliphant is currently Deputy Chair of the CIPR’s Channel Islands Group and has more than a decade of public relations experience. A former journalist, he was Media Manager at Guernsey Finance, the promotional agency for the island's finance industry, before moving to the CISE.

Chair of the CIPR Channel Islands Group Adam Riddell said:

“Chartered status is the highest accreditation in professional public relations practice and both Mark and William should be proud of their achievement. For the Channel Islands to have proportionally the most Chartered practitioners of any CIPR region is a fantastic endorsement of the standards we can demonstrate as an industry in Jersey and Guernsey.

“With smart organisations in the islands increasingly acknowledging the value of a good reputation and embracing public relations at a strategic level, having the right knowledge and expertise and an appreciation of how to act ethically and with integrity is absolutely essential for PR practitioners.”
