Global opportunities for Jersey’s digital sector to be explored at IoD lunch

Monday 06 January 2014

Jersey’s ambitions to grow its digital sector are to be discussed by a leading IT expert at the first IoD Jersey lunch of 2014 this month.

It takes place at the Grand Jersey on Tuesday 21st January, and Simon Brown will highlight some of the key opportunities for Jersey as it embarks on implementing a strategy to grow its digital sector. His talk, "Going Global in a Digital World", will also discuss some of the challenges Jersey will face as it seeks to assert its position as a leading digital jurisdiction on the global stage.

Simon Brown is a locally born independent consultant, author, award-winning speaker and software developer. Up until three years ago, he had always been a permanent employee at a number of IT consulting companies. Now working as a freelancer he has clients in over 20 countries and works with teams at a range of businesses, from small digital start-ups through to global household names, advising them on building and enhancing software solutions.

Steven Hunt, Chairman of the Jersey IoD Events committee, said: “A major challenge for Jersey in 2014 will at last be implementing its digital sector strategy, so what better way to kick off our lunch series than with a local expert in the sector with significant global experience. In an increasingly digital world where there are no physical boundaries or restrictions, the opportunities for Jersey firms really are global, and Simon, who has, from Jersey, built a client base that is truly international, is testament to that. However, there is a huge amount of competition, so Simon’s insights into winning business beyond Jersey’s shores, including overcoming obstacles such as language, culture and pricing, will be fascinating in what will be a milestone year for Jersey’s digital sector.”

The IoD lunch is on Tuesday 21st January at the Grand Jersey and is open to both members and non-members of the IoD.
