Grand Jersey celebrates 125 years in the community

Wednesday 24 June 2015

The five-star Grand Jersey marks its 125th anniversary this month.

The hotel, which has been at the centre of Jersey’s tourism industry for over a century, welcomed the first guests through its doors on 13th June 1890.

Martin Kelly, general manager at Grand Jersey, said: "Grand Jersey is an exceptional hotel property with a rich history in the island’s tourism industry. Our heritage is testament to the unique character of the hotel, its people and the affinity our guests share with the hotel, as a result of the experiences it has provided over the years."

After opening Grand Jersey quickly became one of the most fashionable hotels in Jersey and over the years has been selected to host some of the most exciting events in Jersey’s history, including the Liberation 60 State Banquet in 2005. Honoured guests at the banquet included Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and his Royal Highness Price Phillip.

In October 2006, £15.2 million was invested in an extensive refurbishment of the hotel. This substantial investment allowed the hotel in its entirety to be upgraded with new features including the Champagne Lounge, Terrace, fine dining restaurant Tassili and the Park Suites, while retaining and lot of the charm and character of the original hotel features – many of which remain today.

Grand Jersey is now part of Hand Picked Hotels, as part of the Channel Islands Collection. This move has ensured continued investment into the hotel, safeguarding its status as Jersey’s flagship five-star property.
