Staff at Hawksford have joined the global campaign to get more people giving blood.
Nine employees have just signed up to make a donation along with those who already regularly give blood.
Launched by the NHS in 2015, Missing Type is a worldwide campaign designed to draw attention to and raise awareness of blood donation by asking brands, organisations and influencers to remove the blood type letters A, B and O from their names, using the hashtag #missingtype.
International brands including Cadbury’s, Royal Air Force, Sydney Opera House and Singapore Botanical Gardens have all participated in the campaign, and Hawksford has encouraged staff across its offices in Jersey, Singapore, Hong Kong and Cayman Islands to participate.
Globally, more than 16 employees have registered and have been given time out of their normal working hours to attend their donation appointments.
Hawksford has also made a £500 donation to the blood donor suite at Jersey General Hospital, where the team is currently raising funds for refurbishment. Globally, the Hong Kong office has made a £500 donation to the Children’s Cancer Foundation and the Singapore office has made a £500 donation to the Bone Marrow Donors Programme and are working closely with Red Cross Singapore.
Speaking on behalf of the Jersey Blood Transfusion Service, Adrian O'Keeffe said: "We are truly grateful to Hawksford for the donated funds but most especially for their encouragement of new donors coming forward to give blood. Jersey has a dedicated pool of generous blood donors but as donors retire we need to top up with new people wanting to give."
Hawksford's Head of Marketing Cherith Fothergill said: "The Missing Type campaign has been hugely successful on a global scale, and we are pleased to be a part of raising awareness in Jersey. A number of employees have signed up to become a blood donor, many for their first time. We are proud to support the hospital and the island community both through the blood donations and by pledging £500 to the refurbishment project."
