Have you got your Digital Driving Licence?

Tuesday 08 September 2015

A total of 179 Barclays employees across the Channel Islands have qualified as Barclays Digital Eagles after completing the Barclays Digital Driving Licence.

The digitally savvy employees have passed the accredited training programme which helps people build their tech skills.

Barclays Digital Eagles provide free technology advice to both customers and non-customers at several Barclays’ initiatives in the islands, including Tea & Teach sessions and Code Playground workshops.

The Barclays Digital Driving Licence is a free, interactive learning tool which has been designed to help people of any age get to grips with technology and has modules to suit different experience levels.

It is accessible on any device or via the Barclays Digital Driving Licence App and users do not have to be employees or customers of Barclays to take part.

The programme includes modules on some of the basics like online safety and getting started with social media, progressing to more advanced topics like analytics and coding. Each module was specially developed with digital experts from Accenture, IMB and Microsoft and the qualification has been accredited by City & Guilds.

Learners gain ‘Open Badges’ when they have completed a certain level in a module, which can be shared via social media and applied to their LinkedIn account.

The Barclays Digital Eagles have reached the highest level in the qualification having completed all the modules, with some having achieved over 20,000 points; nearly the maximum score.

“We now have a team of 179 specially trained Digital Eagles across the Channel Islands ready to help people make the most of technology. Their digital expertise can be used to help with anything from staying safe online to connecting with a loved one across the world,” said Justine Gaudion, head of local markets at Barclays in Guernsey.

“Keeping up with technology can be a challenge. At Barclays we understand that technology has an increasingly important role in our day-to-day lives and want to make sure no one is left behind.

“We hope that members of the public take up the chance to develop their own tech skills with the Digital Driving Licence. The programme allows people to take modules in the skills that are most relevant to them, whether they want a beginner’s guide to the internet or to learn more about global digital trends.”
