Business group launched for young people

Monday 04 December 2017

Jersey's Chamber of Commerce has launched a new committee designed to give more young professionals a say in local business.

It's aimed at anyone aged 18-35 from across all sectors of commerce and industry in the Island.

The Committee Chair is Adam Vibert, Consultant at BDO Greenlight, with Caroline Dutot, Advocate at Ardent Chambers, as Vice-Chair.

Along with fellow Committee members, their aim is to increase engagement with younger members of the Island's workforce, providing opportunities for networking, personal development and political engagement for the business leaders of tomorrow.

Chamber Connection has been championed by current Chamber of Commerce President, Eliot Lincoln, who said it was one of his key aims. The concept was first put forward by his predecessor in the role, Kristina Le Feuvre.

He explained: "We want to help each Member of the Chamber Connection network make valuable connections with clients, colleagues and peers that will last for their entire career. With careers that are likely to involve working for multiple companies and may well span different industries, we hope that these critical cross-sector connections made early on will prove invaluable in the future. It’s a focused extension of Chamber’s fundamental aim to create valuable networking opportunities for all Chamber Members, as well as lobbying on their behalf and keeping Members informed about relevant commercial issues.

"From speaking to employees who have just entered the workforce, it became clear that there aren’t currently any cross-sector business networking groups for young business minds in Jersey that can offer quite the same access to fellow professionals afforded by Chamber. The fact that the launch event was fully booked within one working day is testament to the desire for this kind of group. The professionals getting involved with Chamber Connection now are very much the future of The Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and indeed of the commercial sector of the Island as a whole. We are delighted to be providing this unique forum and look forward to facilitating its development and growth."

Chamber Connection Chair, Adam Vibert, sees the launch event as the first of many opportunities for the network to get together: "We have had an overwhelming response to the launch of Chamber Connection with many young professionals contacting us to get involved, and now with a fully booked launch event, which is hugely encouraging for us as a Committee.

"We’ll use the event and our initial communications to find out more about the issues affecting young professionals and establish how often and in what format they would like to get together for future networking opportunities."

Any young professionals who would like to receive the Committee's
communications is invited them to like the Chamber Connection Facebook page.
