Jersey Post set £20,000 charity target for Jersey Alzheimers

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Jersey Alzheimer’s Association has been nominated as Jersey Post’s chosen charity of the year for 2016 with a fundraising target of £20,000.

Jersey Alzheimer’s was selected after a unanimous staff vote was taken in October of last year.

The partnership includes Jersey Post becoming the official sponsor of ‘Dress down for Dementia’ which will take place on 20 May 2016, as well as a new and exciting fundraising initiative Be a daredevil for Dementia’.

This will be promoted and encouraged throughout the year in the hope to inspire staff and islanders to do something daring for the charity which will challenge their everyday lives.

Jersey Alzheimer’s Association will be briefing all 400-plus Jersey Post employees about dementia, the work the charity does in Jersey and how it supports those living with dementia and carers. The charity will also hold outreach events for the community at the Post Office in Broad Street throughout the year.

Mark Blamey, Manager of JAA, said: “Jersey Post is a fantastic community-focused business and we feel that this partnership is a great opportunity for us to reach more Islanders and raise awareness of our services here in Jersey. We want to create a dementia friendly Island and to offer support to anyone who is affected by dementia. We’re thrilled to be working with all the staff and posties.”

Tim Brown, Chief Executive of Jersey Post, said: Jersey Alzheimer’s Association was a very clear favourite among our staff for this year’s charity of choice. Having had colleagues who have used the service, and knowing how many people are touched by dementia, we’re all right behind doing as much as we can for the charity this year.”

In order to raise funds for this great charity, Jersey Post will be undertaking a wide array of fundraising activities throughout the year, including a staff skydive, multiple dress down days, a memory walk around the Island, a pub quiz evening and a corporate golf day, as well as numerous other fundraising events.
