Thursday 31 January 2019

A countryside hotel in Jersey has ranked in the top 25 best hotels in Europe, according to TripAdvisor.

Hotel La Place and Country Cottages in St. Brelade gained 20th position in the travel website's 2019 Traveller's Choice Awards, which are determined based on reviews and opinions collected in a single year.

La Place also ranked third in the Top 25 Hotels in the UK, the highest ranking for any Channel Islands establishment and 15th for service.

Commenting on the results, the Group General Manager Tim Brooke, said: “We work very hard to provide the best possible standards and service for our guests and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised once again by TripAdvisor.

"Last year La Place achieved fourth place, so to move up the rankings is very pleasing for us, especially being ranked within the top 25 hotels in Europe for the first time."

The Merton Hotel also enjoyed success in the awards, having been voted the fifth best family hotel in the UK.

General Manager Michael McInerney said that the team were "delighted" with the result.

"To receive such high recognition from the world’s largest travel website is testament to the hard work we all put in throughout the year.  We strive to make every one of our guests’ stays memorable. The fantastic feedback we receive on TripAdvisor, plus awards like this one, are a constant source of motivation for myself and the team."

“According to TripAdvisor, 88% of our guests rate their experience ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’. That’s a fantastic number, but until that figure reaches 100% we’ve still got work to do. Bring on the 2019 season!” he commented.

David Seymour, the group’s Managing Director, added: “Congratulations to all our team at The Merton, and to the other Jersey hoteliers who also excelled in their respective categories. Jersey’s reputation as a fantastic family holiday destination continues to grow and we can all be very proud of the job we’re doing as accommodation providers.”
