Local charities equipped with recycled stationery thanks to Hawksford

Corporate, private client and funds business Hawksford, has recycled hundreds of pounds worth of unused stationery by donating it to seven local charities and community groups further afield.

The items, which included lever arch files, dividers, note pads and pencils were distributed via the Jersey Association of Charities database earlier this month, with the lion’s share going to Island Friends Together, a charity that supports orphanages and poor schools in Sri Lanka and southern India.

Other beneficiaries were Les Amis, Jersey Action Against Rape, Little Sisters of the Poor, St Ouen’s Youth Club, Community Savings Ltd and Grainville School.

Hawksford’s Chief Executive Officer Maxine Rawlins, said: "We had a huge backlog of old and unused stationery in storage that we hoped would be of use to some of the wonderful charities and groups in our community. The response was fantastic and we are delighted that so many organisations have benefitted from the free stationery. We’ve already received positive feedback from many of the groups, and the recycled items are clearly being put to good use."

Island Friends Together has already shipped its donated stationery to Colombo in Sri Lanka, where it will be distributed to orphanages and poor schools across the country. Community Savings Ltd, which provides banking facilities to people in Jersey who cannot get bank accounts or who need financial assistance, has also responded to say the items donated by Hawksford are being used to replace the charity’s old and worn stationery.
