Founded in 1927 in America, Variety has grown into an International charity and has tents throughout the world from New Zealand, Australia, America to Jersey. Variety was started in Jersey by Sir Billy Butlin in 1968 and we are proud to state that all the monies raised in Jersey remains in Jersey and is used solely for the children. Our mission is to ensure that all children have the same opportunities in life – to LIVE, LAUGH, LEARN AND DREAM.

Description

Variety - the Children’s Charity of Jersey is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and well-being of children in Jersey. Tent 52 offers financial assistance and support to disabled and disadvantaged children and other organisations in Jersey, to give a wider range of opportunities to the children in their care. On a daily basis, assistance is sought from families who find themselves without enough money to provide food or clothing for their children. This last year alone, we have paid out over £31,000 which has also helped to purchase primary school uniforms and specialised equipment. The reason for the majority of our fundraising is to raise enough money to be able to continue with this wonderful work to help these families.

Through hard work, thoughtful stewardship and single-minded focus on the needs of the young, Variety strives to make a lasting difference by bringing hope and comfort to the lives of the less fortunate and their families in our Island. 

Variety is infamous for the prestigious annual “Star of the Year” Awards. This is very special to Variety as it gives us the opportunity to recognise the youngsters in Jersey who have such inspirational stories. There are 6 sub-categories, the first being Star of Courage, this may be a youngster who has overcome an illness or disability or perhaps helps in the Community or helps a charity by giving of their time to help raise money. They may be a Carer to a sibling or parent. Then there are the Achievement Awards for Sports, Academia or the Arts. All this culminates in a Grand Ceremony in October each year where all the shortlisted children are treated to an afternoon they don’t forget.
