The launch of the 2014 AA Restaurant Guide at the AA Hospitality Awards in London earlier this week reinforced Jersey’s position as a leading food destination, awarding AA Rosettes to an increasing number of the island’s restaurants.

The new AA Restaurant Guide for 2014 features 19 of Jersey’s restaurants, making the island one of the UK’s top centres of gastronomic excellence, and increasing Jersey’s AA Rosette total from 32 in 2013 to 35 for 2014.

Of the 35 AA Rosettes received by Jersey restaurants this year, 16 were awarded to establishments owned by members of Luxury Jersey Hotels, the local hotel consortium which is proud to include the island’s Michelin-starred restaurants.

The island’s continuing success in the 2014 AA Restaurant Guide is a reflection not only of the exceptional quality of Jersey’s restaurants, but also the passion and expertise of their teams of chefs. These include food innovator Richard Allen, Executive Head Chef at Grand Jersey’s Tassili restaurant who was named Hotel Cateys ‘Hotel Chef of the Year’ in his category last year, as well as receiving the ‘Restaurant Chef of the Year’ award from the Craft Guild of Chefs.

Patrick Burke, Chairman of Luxury Jersey Hotels and owner of The Atlantic Hotel and Ocean Restaurant, the only restaurant in the Channel Islands to hold four AA Rosettes said: ‘We are delighted that the AA Hospitality Awards, among the most prestigious national awards of their kind, have once again recognised Jersey as a leading gourmet destination. Our island has won international acclaim for its excellent produce, from our Jersey Royal potatoes to the superb fish and seafood found in our waters, and showcasing the finest local ingredients with style and expertise is a matter of intense pride for our chefs. We join in congratulating the chefs who have been rewarded for their culinary excellence, including all the restaurants represented by Luxury Jersey Hotels.’

The AA Rosettes are awarded following at least one unannounced visit by the AA Hotel and Restaurant inspectors, who assess the restaurant on the basis of the entire meal, including ancillary items. Establishments must demonstrate that they serve consistently good quality ingredients cooked with care and understanding to be in with a chance of receiving a coveted AA Rosette. The AA estimates that just 10% of the restaurants in the UK are of a standard that is worthy of one Rosette or above.
