A Jersey women’s basketball league starts next week (Tuesday 19th April) with sponsorship from Jersey law firm, Bedell Cristin.

Running every Tuesday from 19:00-21:00 for 10 weeks, the league is suitable for any females aged 13+ who would like to play basketball in a fun and inclusive environment. No experience is necessary, and the sessions take place at Oakfield Sports Centre.

The firm has a particular affinity with this community initiative as it is organised by one of its employees, Heather Watters, an Associate in its Jersey litigation team. Heather is a keen basketball player and decided to set-up the league to attract some fresh talent to the sport.

Heather said, "I'm delighted that Bedell Cristin agreed to sponsor the women's basketball league in Jersey. The funds will enable us to introduce basketball to a new audience, and who knows, maybe we will find some new talent for the next Island Games!"

In addition to the league, Heather has organised a ‘Dribbleathon’ on Monday 18 April, starting from the freedom tree beside the Radisson Hotel, going to First Tower and back again. It starts at 12:00 and is open to all abilities. Those new to the sport can try dribbling with one ball, and the more advanced can dribble with both hands. This event is open to all and does not require booking, simply turn up at midday at the freedom tree to join in.

If you'd like to join the league, please email Heather at jerseywomensbasketballleague@gmail.com to be assigned to a team or join "Jersey women's basketball league" on Facebook to find out more.
