LAW firm Benest Corbett Renouf has announced that its annual family law conferences will take place on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October, in Jersey.
Managing Partner David Benest will join a number of high-profile judges, QCs and other specialist family lawyers to highlight the need to protect assets on divorce on day one and will consider surrogacy and adoption on day two of the programme.
Delegates will be addressed by keynote speaker Sir Paul Coleridge, a retired judge of the High Court of England and Wales and the former President of the Family Division. He is currently the Chairman of the Marriage Foundation, which he established in 2012. In November 2013, Sir Paul announced his retirement from being a judge in order to "concentrate on his foundation" adding that he would be freer to be "outspoken”!
The keynote speaker for 6th October will be The Hon. Ms Justice Russell, who is also a High Court Judge, specialising in Family Law. Ms Justice Russell has ruled on a number of custody cases involving surrogacy arrangements that have broken down. Delegates will also hear from Jersey-based surrogate parents and an adoptive parent, to provide insight into both processes.
Commenting on the two day conference, Advocate Benest said: “We are delighted to have attracted a range of expert speakers to present on two divergent themes next month. We will be considering many issues, from the likelihood of some divorcing couples “forum shopping” post Brexit, to the experiences of adoption and surrogacy in France. We are building on the popularity of the conference each year and are pleased that some of our delegates from 2016 are returning as speakers this year, including Deemster Andrew Corlett, from the Isle of Man.”
The Autumn Family Law conferences will take place from 9.00am – 5.30 pm in The Golden Room at The Hotel de France on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October 2017. Each day will be followed by a drinks reception. Tickets are £250 per day or £400 for both days. Places may be booked on Eventbrite, or by calling 760862. Each day counts as 6.5 hours CPD. Agendas for the conference may be viewed on www.bcrlawjersey.com.
