Optimus Recruitment has donated £15,000 to the Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK) and committed to support the social enterprise for the next three years.

The donation will go towards the apprenticeship scheme at the café, which provides workplace opportunities for people with widely ranging skills and life experiences, in particular, Islanders with learning disabilities and autism.

In addition to the financial contribution, Optimus plan to host a programme of events at BSK, and have a hands-on approach to raise further funds.

The new partnership was formed after staff at Optimus were asked to nominate local charitable causes close to their hearts. With one of the team having an autistic child, BSK was a natural choice. It was also felt that BSK’s vision was naturally aligned to that of Optimus – providing everyone with the skills and opportunity to find rewarding employment.

Jamie Guyer, Managing Director of Optimus Recruitment, said: “We know how amazing it feels to find someone a job that they love and enjoy, but our efforts are in no way comparable to the great work taking place at BSK. We hope that our contribution will go some way to enriching the lives of BSK’s staff and apprentices.

“This three-year partnership will be as beneficial to Optimus as it is to BSK, as we learn more about their amazing work and the people they support. We can learn a lot about a business model based on giving meaningful jobs and opportunities to more vulnerable members of our community. Equally, we will be keen to share our expertise with the BSK team.”

Gabby Ellmers, Managing Director of BSK, said: “We are immensely grateful to Optimus for their generosity and commitment, which will make a significant difference to the lives of the people we support. We also aim to be a ‘stepping stone’ into work so Optimus’s guidance and support will, I am sure, be hugely beneficial to our apprentices and trainees.”

Last year, Optimus Recruitment celebrated its tenth anniversary. The majority of their team have a background in financial services so can offer practical, first-hand knowledge of what employers are looking for. The teams’ commitment to deliver a high-quality service to candidates and clients with honesty and integrity has made Optimus one of the Island’s leading recruiters.
