Birds that have been recorded in both Jersey and China will feature on a set of six stamps to be issued by Jersey Post on 3 September 2018. The issue is the fourth in a series looking at Jersey’s natural links with China and Norwegian stamp artist, Martin Mörck, was once again commissioned to collaborate with Chinese designer Wang Huming to produce the illustrations for the stamps.
Melanie Gouzinis, Head of Philatelic at Jersey Post explains: “China and Jersey continue to share exchanges between schoolchildren, businessmen and women and government representatives and dignitaries. The visits provide an opportunity to explore each other’s cultures and ways of life. Once again, we have used our stamp designs to illustrate similarities in the countries’ natural environments and this year the focus is birds that have been recorded in both Jersey and China.”
Despite its small size, measuring just 45 square miles, Jersey has an amazing variety of habitats from coastal cliffs and dunes, to marshes and wooded inland valleys. The Island’s huge tidal range and mild winters act as a magnet to both migrating and wintering birds.
The six stamps feature the Red-billed chough, Yellowhammer, Barn swallow, Stonechat, Goldfinch and Linnet. The fourth issue in Jersey Post’s Links with China series, the stamps were preceded by Garden Flowers, issued on 22 September 2015, Waterfowl, issued on 22 September 2016 and Butterflies, issued on 1 September 2017.
Jersey Post’s Birdlifestamps will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 3 September 2018.
