Jersey charity Brighter Futures has received a grant from Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands in order to continue supporting a keyworker for families in need.
Brighter Futures supports families in Jersey who are facing significant difficulties or challenges in their lives. Key workers work alongside the main carer to support and enable positive child development, good parent/child relationships and better wellbeing for parent and child.
Each full-time keyworker works with about twenty parent/carers.
The charity offers a broad range of parent/carer and child groups which are free and focus on the importance of creating and building positive, healthy relationships, social and emotional development, social communication and language development and physical development. Each parent/carer is also supported on a one-to-one basis by their own identified keyworker, the aim of which is to support families to be more resilient, confident and healthy. Creche facilities are also provided by the charity if required to enable parents/carers to attend the groups and sessions.
Commenting on the grant, Judith Hanson, Community Engagement Officer, Brighter Futures said:
“We have about 150 families at any time who are each completely unique in their situations – the keyworkers are incredibly skilled in ensuring every family is catered for whether it be the parent/carer’s wellbeing, children’s development or developing their skills through second chance learning opportunities and personal development programmes. We are always at full capacity but endeavour to help as many families as possible, so the Foundation’s support is very gratefully received.”
Jo Le Poidevin, Executive Director for the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands, also added:
“We are lucky that charities such as Brighter Futures exist to alleviate the pressures for families who may be struggling in Jersey. The services are offered free of charge to ensure they are accessible to all families in need, and include a number of different programmes for both adults and children, addressing relevant topics, as well as offering individual one-to-one support with keyworkers. We are delighted to support the vital work of Brighter Futures who are helping children and families to become happier and healthier, and strengthening our Island community.”
